Decreased joint pain
-
Improved sleep
-
Improved mood
-

-
Improved mental health
Even moderate weight loss of 5-10% of your current weight can lead to improvements in your blood pressure, blood cholesterol, and blood sugars.
Why Weight Loss is so Difficult
When we start to lose weight, hormone changes begin to take place. Weight loss causes a decrease in the hormone, leptin, whose job it is to signal the brain that you are full. Additionally, as we lose weight and leptin decreases, another hormone (ghrelin) increases. Ghrelin is the hormone responsible for stimulating hunger. The body is trying to fight to remain at the weight it is used to.
This hormone shift is a big contributor to why many weight loss plans fail. Creating a weight loss plan that establishes a healthy eating routine is helpful in offsetting our body’s internal struggle. We must rewire our body’s routine for when to eat, how much to eat, and what to eat.
Fast Weight Loss
Weight that goes away quickly will come back quickly. According to the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 80% of people fail to sustain weight loss for greater than one year. Fad diets and cleanses may work great to lower the number on the scale, but the weight is unlikely to stay off. When calories are drastically reduced, rapid weight loss may result. However, most of this weight loss comes from the loss of muscle, not fat.
This sets someone up for a hard road long term. As muscle mass decreases, so does our metabolism. Maintaining weight loss with a lower metabolism is difficult to say the least. Working hard to limit food intake and not seeing the desired results is frustrating. This is the leading reason people give up on their weight loss goals.
Benefits of Our Medical Weight Loss Plan
Your medical weight loss plan begins with a thorough medical work-up. It is important to uncover any underlying health conditions that can make weight loss more challenging such as:
-
Thyroid dysfunction
-
Chronic inflammation
-
Hormone imbalance
-
Mental health issues
-
Poorly controlled stress
These conditions can all be barriers to weight loss. We want to set you up for success, so your primary care provider will work closely with you to help control these conditions. This will make any weight loss strategies you pursue more successful.
Next, we help guide you in what happens to your body during weight loss. Understanding how your body can work to sabotage your efforts can help inform your individualized game plan for meeting your weight loss goals. There is more to the plan than just diet and exercise alone. Our medical weight loss plans focus on lifestyle changes and longevity… not “how can I lose the most amount of weight in the shortest period of time.”
With our holistic approach to weight loss, you can feel like your best self… on the inside and outside. Reaching your weight loss goals will feel even greater and reap better health benefits when you are able to maintain your success. With a little consistency, patience, and planning, we can work together to make sure the weight will come off… and stay off!
